The Tomb Raider franchise has been laying dormant for some time now, and fans are eager to see it return in some form.
The original games, which debuted back in the OG PlayStation era, evolved over time from platforming adventures featuring heavy exploration for secrets, into more open area survival games, with the reboot trilogy.
The older Tomb Raider adventures are being remastered for modern platforms currently

This rumour was then picked up by Reddit, where fans began to debate the possibility, seeing many pitfalls in the idea, but some stayed optimistic.
It started with jokes, framed around the formula of open-world missions and quests, which usually involve fetching items and ticking off tasks.
“‘Lara, if you get me 12 bananas, I will give you an ancient amulet,’” joked giants888.
This then spiralled into conversation about whether the formula would ruin the ethos of the franchise.

“This gives me anxiety… these types of missions drain the fun out of a game in minutes,” replied KangarooWeird9974.
“Open world games have grown exhausting, I haven’t finished one in years,” mentions mrhuddlebucket.
Replying to this, Onlyspeaksfacts replied optimistically, saying, “I still love and play open world games.”
Lots of fans aren’t sure this is the way to go, but if handled correctly, it could be a big win for the series.

“I think it could work if they keep everything immersive,” said one fan.
Another fan chimes in with, “Love it! Contrary to the doomers here, I love an open world game. And as a Tomb Raider enthusiast since the original, I’m excited!”
We’ll have to wait and see if this rumour turns out to be truth, and if it is, will it be an exciting step for Lara Croft?
