Every so often few games come along and take a platform by storm, even if momentary and one such game is THE FINALS, which was released on 7 December.
Developed and published by Embark Studios, a subsidiary of Nexon, THE FINALS is a free-to-play first-person shooter and as of right now, it’s taken over the PC platform, Steam. Featuring high-octane, team-based action, and gorgeous destructible environments, it’s easy to understand why THE FINALS is the latest popular shooter.

Inspired by the likes of The Hunger Games, the official description for the free-to-play shooter tells: “Viewers at home, here's the news you've been waiting to hear: THE FINALS is accepting new contestants, and that means YOU! That's right, soon the world could be watching YOU tear apart our newest dynamic arenas and seize everlasting fame!

“As you know, THE FINALS is the world's greatest free-to-play combat game show! Our contestants plug into our virtual world and join teams in escalating tournaments. They fight it out in our beautifully rendered arenas based on real-world locations that they can alter, exploit, and even destroy, it continues.
So how popular is THE FINALS, I hear ask? While exact data cannot be acquired for console numbers, at least on the Steam platform, not only has THE FINALS smashed into the top ten most played games, but according to SteamDB, it currently sits firmly at the number one spot.
THE FINALS has an all-time concurrent player peak of 242,619 since its launch a few days ago and just under 200,000 players competing right now. I wouldn't be surprised to see those numbers grow in the coming weeks, especially when word spreads further across social media.
THE FINALS is available now on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S with the option of full cross-play support.
