I think I might’ve stumbled across a corker.
I want you to imagine what it might be like if, say, Fallout 4 or The Last of Us Part II had been made in the style of a retro pixel-art RPG.
Well, you’d end up with something like Mistaken.

Developed by Storken, Mistaken is a brand new post-apocalyptic RPG which is available to sample on Steam.
Just like those aforementioned franchises, Mistaken will have you facing off against your fair share of grisly monsters alongside the general trials and tribulations brought forth by a post-apocalyptic landscape.
“The world is lost to eldritch mist. No heroes, no grand purpose - only survival. Build, fight, and carve your path through treacherous lands where the remnants of humanity and horrors beyond reason now roam. Survive… or be Mistaken,” the synopsis teases.
You can watch Mistaken’s trailer below.
You’ll be tasked with all of the usual fare, from defeating Mistaken to scavenging their remains for supplies, as well as upgrading your weapons and armour, and base building.

When it comes to upgrading, it’s ‘cartifacts’ that you’ll be seeking out, magically infused trading cards that provide you with unique buffs and stack effects.
The full game of Mistaken remains without a release date, but devs have just launched a demo on Steam.
It claims to last for three to five hours, so there’s plenty for you to sink your teeth into.
You’ll be able to create your character, select their origin, and begin your post-apocalyptic journey.

Of course, as devs point out, this is still just a small slither of what you'll experience in the full release.
The pixel-art aesthetic will certainly help Mistaken stand out from other post-apocalyptic games.
I have to say, it looks like a total delight to play.
As for the nasties you’ll be taking on, don’t think the challenge ends with the Mistaken.

The Pale Devour is one of the bosses teased to feature in the game.
We’ll be keeping an eye on Mistaken’s progress but for now, hop into that demo.
