That is why it is no surprise that studios are getting in on the action and the same can be said for Sonka, the developers behind Holstin.

Holstin is a psychological survival horror game set in an eerie, isolated Polish town during the 1990s.

“Late November 1992. A small, isolated town in eastern Poland is struck by a foul calamity that slowly begins to consume everyone and everything it touches,” the official synopsis reads.

“This is the last known whereabouts of your friend Bartek before he stopped answering your calls. Now, you need to follow in his footsteps to uncover what brought him to this town in the first place and why he possibly couldn’t ever get out.”

With the town consumed by an ominous presence, it is up to you to find answers as everybody else seems to be possessed by monstrous entities.

If you wish to survive, you will have to battle ungodly manifestations, interrogate locals and explore a festering town that is hell bent on killing you.

Set to be fully launched in the future, Holstin is currently available to try out for free courtesy of Steam.

In the typical post-apocalyptic game style, you will have to scavenge for supplies and weapons as you battle with the manic locals and uncover the town’s secrets and puzzles.

Using custom in-house technology, Holstin also features a “new spin on the pixel look” with hand-drawn environments and dynamic lighting and camera rotation.

All in all, Holstin is not one to miss out on, especially as you can now try before you buy ahead of its full release.
