If you’re a fan of the farming sim genre, you tend to eat pretty well all year round, with it being a bustling genre filled with delightful experiences.
If you’re not a fan, then why the hell are you here? I’m about to wax lyrical about a new farming sim that has a free demo over on Steam.
Doloc Town has a free demo available on Steam for you to try
The game is Doloc Town, and it’s got some major vibes, pulling inspirations from some unlikely places. Well, at least one unlikely place.

What are these vibes? I hear you barking, big dog.
Of course, you’ve got some Stardew Valley in here - it’s a farming simulator, after all.
Plus, the lush pixel graphics are channelling that cosy feel you get from the leader of the genre pack.
Then there’s the fact that this cosy sim is set during an apocalyptic and dystopian world - I know, not all that cosy, on the face of things - which is giving Fallout (do the kids still say ‘giving’?)

If anything, an apocalyptic world makes for the perfect backdrop to a farming sim, as you’ll need to establish a thriving home and garden in order to survive.
A mix of platforming exploration, farming crops, with a dash of survival in there too, Doloc Town looks like an emerging gem.
I’ve added this to my wishlist, and I’ve got the demo downloading on my Steam Deck, as a bit of a sucker for these games.
One major feature here, that is really intriguing me, has to be the extreme weather and need to survive the environments.

This is going to add a new layer to play, hopefully offering some fresh challenges for the genre.
The Steam page notes, “Above all, the key is to endure the wasteland and pursue whatever your heart truly desires,” which for me will be getting to know the fellow villagers, as well as uncovering the mysteries of the end of the world.
