There’s a major appetite for gaming demos right now. It used to be the case that you could buy a new release and have faith in its performance. Now? Not so much. We’ve seen a number of major titles released in questionable states as of late.
The Last of Us Part I may have been released to critical acclaim on PlayStation 5, but it was a very different story for its PC port. It was so bug-ridden that players could barely make it past the main menu. Thankfully, a number of patches have improved the game in recent months but the point is, it never should have been released in that state. It’s Cyberpunk 2077 all over again. Even Star Wars Jedi Survivor had bug and frame-rate issues across a number of platforms. Demos provide you with the opportunity to see the game for yourself firsthand before purchase - and Steam users can currently sample the critically-acclaimed 2019 release A Plague Tale: Innocence.
A sequel to the game was released last year, A Plague Tale: Requiem, which received equal critical acclaim.
Developed by Asobo Studio, A Plague Tale: Innocence is a stealth-based action-adventure game. Players assume the role of Amicia de Rune. Amicia, alongside her brother Hugo, must escape their home in 14th century Aquitaine, France, amidst the Hundred years’ War. On top of that, the black plague is running rampant, flooding the streets with rats you’ll want to avoid. You’ll evade threats, solve puzzles, and experience what is a very emotional story.

At the moment, Steam is celebrating Steam Stealth Fest. As a part of the celebrations, a free demo has been made available for A Plague Tale: Innocence. If you end up loving the game, it’s also got a whopping 80% off right now, meaning you can nab it for a mere £6.99. Steam Stealth Fest runs until 31 July, when it’s expected that the demo alongside the 80% off discount may end, so if you want to check out this game and see if it’s for you, you best act soon.
Not a Steam user? There’s also a free demo over on PlayStation.
