While the commentary has provided some great insight into the design of the game and how things could have gone differently, there are some alternate events that have rubbed fans the wrong way.
An alternate ending for the game has been doing the rounds online, with fans confidently saying the game would have been significantly worse had Naughty Dog kept it in.

The ending would include a few more character deaths, and ultimately end in Abby travelling to California alone and ultimately being killed by Ellie. It’s said Ellie would then head home only to be captured and tortured by an unknown attacker who’s also on a revenge mission to kill Ellie. She’d then lose her fingers and the game would end.
In a Reddit post by ichmagkrapfen, fans shared their discontent and were overwhelmingly happy Naughty Dog went in a different direction.
One fan said: “I can see what they were going for there, but I'm really glad they stuck with the ending that we got in the game.”
Some actually thought it’d be quite cool, saying: “On her way to get revenge she set others on the same path against her, honestly I wouldn’t have minded it. It really shows how it’s a never ending cycle of violence.”

Others were more passionate, with one calling it a “brain dead ending,” and it’d be “awful” if it was kept.
It’d be interesting to see how reception to the game would have changed if they’d left this ending in, though given it was already slated for its story chances are this would have only exacerbated things.
