Sony revealed the monthly PlayStation Plus Essential games earlier this month, and one of them has left a bit of a sour taste in users’ mouths.
In case you missed it, this month’s PlayStation Plus Essential titles are Payday 3, Pac-Man World Re-Pac, and High on Life.
Now from what I’ve seen, opinions have been pretty mixed across the board on all three games. People think Payday 3 is just an inferior version of Payday 2 and a lot of folks haven’t even heard of Pac-Man World Re-Pac, but initially, it seemed that the user base was at least more positive on High on Life than the rest of February’s offerings.

Now that they’ve finally had a chance to actually play the game though, public opinion on the title seems to be dipping.
In a thread over on the r/PlayStationPlus subreddit showing off one of the scenes from the game, fans didn’t seem to be impressed with High on Life’s “cringe” humour.
“Cringe. My buddy said he enjoyed it and talking guns and stuff,” commented user ABBucsfan, “This clip makes me think it's made by some teenager who thinks just throwing a bunch of expletives every few seconds makes something funny…”
“The Rick and Morty humor doesn’t really hit the same here. In other projects Justin Roiland has better writers that kind of reel in his riffing, but here it’s pretty redundant,” replied user Vanthuuu.

“I played for a couple hours yesterday and most of the jokes didn’t land.”
Ok so, as someone who played a decent chunk of High on Life, I do think this clip isn’t the greatest example of the game’s humour… but at the same time, I think the reaction is completely fair.
I think there are some genuinely funny moments in the game, but it might be fair to say it’s more hit than it is miss - and that’s entirely down to Justin Roiland’s obsession with just ad-libbing 90% of the dialogue in the game.
