Although the PlayStation 5 Pro has only just been released, Sony has reportedly already turned its attention to its next piece of hardware and a recent tease has shed some more light on the future.
Released back in November, the PlayStation 5 Pro is the mid-generation update for the PS5, offering a much more powerful piece of hardware.

With many games offering support for the upgrade, it is hard to believe that Sony is already working on the PlayStation 6 but apparently, that is the case.

Now, according to a former PlayStation CEO, the PlayStation 6 will not be completely discless.
Appearing on the Kiwi Talkz podcast earlier this week, Shawn Layden revealed that Sony would have trouble launching its next console with fully digital being the only option.
As we already know, the PS5 can be purchased as a digital-only console with a separate disc drive also being available alongside.
When the interviewer asked Layden if this would be the same for the launch of the PS6, the former CEO claimed that it is unlikely that the next PlayStation would drop disc support.

He goes on to explain that the PlayStation is the leading console in 170 countries, each with their own unique internet infrastructures, and so Sony wishes to make them as accessible as possible.
More specifically, in certain regions, having a digital-only console that requires an around the clock internet connection could spell disaster and so it is doubtful that Sony will get rid of the chance to use physical games.
As a result, Sony would need to consider how many players would be affected before they made such a big decision and, right now, it simply isn’t feasible.
Of course, Layden no longer works at PlayStation so it is worth taking this news with a pinch of salt but there is no denying that he makes a lot of sense.
