However, it seems as though not all users have access to it just yet.

Millions of us have good memories of our PlayStation 4 consoles as the Sony unit kept us entertained for almost 10-years before its successor, the PlayStation 5, was released.

Giving us access to games such as Marvel’s Spider-Man, Red Dead Redemption 2, and Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End to name a few, the PS4 was a much-loved console.
Especially as it gave users the chance to show off their favourite titles via animated backgrounds.
One of the most iconic was The Last of Us Part II dynamic theme which changed the art based on the time of day you were booting up the console.
However, those who purchased the PlayStation 5 back in 2020 soon realised that this feature had not been carried over to the next-gen console.

As a result, fans have been calling out for the return of animated themed backgrounds and it seems as though Sony has finally given in after five years.
Spotted by one user over on r/PS5, they share how they recently received a notification upon booting up the console.
“Has anyone else gotten a notification on the home menu about new backgrounds?
There’s several new animated game themed backgrounds in the Games tab and I’m wondering if this was just added?” They asked.

Judging from the comments, this feature is being rolled out just like many of Sony’s new additions.
Some users report just having an Astro Bot animated background whilst others have some dedicated to Days Gone, Ghost of Tsushima, Ghost of Yōtei, God of War Ragnarök and more.
Although not every user has access to this new addition, it is pretty likely that they will over the course of the next few weeks.
It’s about damn time.
