PlayStation 6 leaked release plans slammed by gamers: 'we've barely started this gen'

It's too soon

According to recent rumours, it is believed that the PlayStation 6 is already scheduled for a 2027 release but, as you can imagine, this potential date is already being slammed by players.

Released during the COVID-19 pandemic, the PlayStation 5 was faced with all manner of problems upon its launch.

From stock shortages to a whole pandemic to content with, millions of players across the world struggled to get their hands on Sony’s latest console and so, for many, they have only owned the PlayStation 5 for a handful of years.

On top of that, Sony released the PlayStation 5 Pro back in November 2024 and, as a more powerful version of its predecessor, it is confusing to hear that the company is reportedly already working on launching the PlayStation 6 as early as 2027.

With players only just entering into their fifth year with the PS5 and its list of exclusives are still looking a bit bare, users recently took to r/LeaksAndRumours to share their thoughts about the next iteration of PlayStation.

User AngryTrooper09 said, “It’s 2025 and the PS4 is still getting major releases like COD.

It just feels like we haven’t even fully transitioned to this current generation, so I don’t really think the next one should come as quickly.”

To which user futurafrlx replied, “Games take way too long to make nowadays, it feels like this gen is so barren.

Like, there are obviously a lot of good games, but it's hard to look at the list of PS5 first-party games and not to feel like PS5 has no games.”

For user Cybralisk, the delay in getting your hands on a PS5 plays a big role in how soon the PS6 should be released.

“I just got a PS5 last year, you couldn’t even realistically get one until 2022-23,” they shared.

“Most games aren’t even taking advantage of the system right now. We don’t need PS6.”

It seems as though the vast majority of players are not on board with the PlayStation 6 arriving in 2027, so hopefully, Sony will take this on board and instead turn its attention to some more PS5 exclusives.
