We’re several years into this console generation, and the boffins at companies like Sony and Microsoft are starting to look at what comes next.
It may feel a bit soon, but hardware development starts early, and this has caused some outlets to report that Sony could be eyeing the 2027 holiday season for a PlayStation 6 release.
We've only just had the PS5 Pro and folks are talking about the PS6
The idea that only a couple of years could be left in this generation feels bonkers, and that’s something the fans are noticing.

Some believe that this generation has been one miss after another, with many taking aim at Sony’s direction.
“They genuinely wasted half of this gen in chasing live service slop,” said one Twitter user who sparked a conversation about the PlayStation 5.
In reply, another fan said, “It should at-least release in 2030. We still haven’t got any games that take full advantage of the System.”
A lot of this reaction comes from Sony’s insistence on pursuing live-service titles and abandoning them years into design.

The idea of releasing in 2030 is picked up by another player, who comments, “They also spent almost half of it without consoles on store shelves. It’s too early for the PS6. 2030 seams like a good time to release it.”
Of course, they’re referring to the shortage of consoles at launch of the PS5 which continued on for many months, leaving players wanting.
“There is literally no big PS5 title that has made the console memorable,” is a bold claim from another gamer, but many would agree.
There could still be a few years left in the tank, but it seems that numerous gamers aren’t happy with this console generation and its ‘lack of games’.

The other issue is that the leaps between consoles just aren’t that big, which makes users wonder why they’d even bother.
It seems we need a few more years with our current hardware.
