Alongside the likes of God of War, Horizon and Uncharted, The Last of Us is one of Sony PlayStation’s leading brands with fans eagerly awaiting the third numbered entry from developer Naughty Dog.

In our review of The Last of Us Part II Remastered, we said: “We all thought Part II was Naughty Dog’s magnum opus but Part II Remastered shows that there’s plenty more gas in the tank. If this is insight into what’s to come from the studio, I cannot wait to see what Naughty Dog is cooking up next.”
Without giving too much away, the second playable character in The Last of Us Part II is Abby Anderson. Late in the game, Abby meets another character named Lev and his sister, Yara.
After escaping the clutches of their messed-up mother, a member of an even-more-messed-up faction, Lev and Yara team up with Abby.
There’s no way that the player nor Abby would know that this would happen, but it does seem that a small foreshadowing Easter egg was placed very early in the game alluding to the fact.

“The main character of the book Abby was reading before Manny woke her up is named Lev,” said lxmohr, showing an image of the book in question.
“This is the book resting on Abby’s chest when Manny wakes her up to start Seattle Day 1.”
City of Thieves is a real novel written by David Benioff that was published in 2008 and is a “coming of age story set in the World War II siege of Leningrad”.
“That's actually a pretty cool detail I never knew,” said Terminator7786 to which lxmohr replied, “I’ve never read the book, but I’ve heard of it, so I looked it up on my current playthrough. I saw the main character was named Lev, and thought that had to be intentional.”

“Neil Druckmann has stated that City of Thieves was an influence on The Last of Us Part I. It’s both an Easter egg and a neat concept that Abby is essentially reading the book that inspired Joel and Ellie’s journey, thus impacting her life,” No_Leopard_5559 explained.
“I think Abby is based on Vika,” who is a character from City of Thieves, suggests Zapato-1796.
The Last of Us Part I and Part II are available now on PC and PlayStation.
