God of War Ragnarök became one the best video games of its generation when it was released in November 2022 for PS5 and PS4.
Considered to be somewhat of a soft reboot in the series, the God of War that was released in 2018 was a very different game from the series' previous entries. God of War from the PS2 to PS3 era was a pure hack-and-slash brute-fest that starred Spartan warrior-turned Greek God slayer Kratos.

However, when the series arrived on PlayStation 4 in 2018, it told a more mature, gritty, and at times heart-warming, story of Kratos, now residing in the Scandinavian realm of Midgard with his son Atreus. Sure, God of War (2018) still featured high-octane and brutal gameplay, but for better or worse, the series had evolved into something more cinematic and would garner multiple awards which led to the success of God of War Ragnarök.

Despite the continued success of the God of War series, no matter the generation, there has never been a DLC expansion, but that might be about to change according to recent reports. As reported by GamingBolt (via ResetEra), a renowned industry insider, known as ‘The Snitch’ on Twitter, claims that DLC for God of War Ragnarök is currently in development and it is claimed to be roughly 60% through its completion.
What’s more, it is also claimed that the DLC will arrive at some point this year. It’s unclear at this time whether this content will be direct DLC to Ragnarök or a standalone experience much like Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales. Interestingly, just this month, current series developer Santa Monica Studio advertised a new job listing that required knowledge of both God of War (2018) as well as God of War Ragnarök. So make of that what you will.
Of course, we should take all unconfirmed rumours with a pinch of salt until proven otherwise. After all, at least in the God of War series, this would be an unprecedented development, but one that fans would surely welcome nonetheless.

In our review of God of War Ragnarök, we said that it is “a fantastically impressive sequel that delivers in every conceivable way. It expands on and improves the formula established in 2018’s God of War hugely, offering up blistering action, gut-wrenching twists, and truly cinematic boss battles with real emotional heft behind them. This is a high-stakes, high-fantasy rollercoaster from start to finish, and an instant PlayStation classic.”
Could we get an announcement this year during a PlayStation Showcase event? Only time will tell. God of War Ragnarök is out now on PS5 and PS4.
