Last week saw Santa Monica Studio celebrate the 20th-anniversary of the first ever God of War entry but despite such a momentous occasion, there was no news of its next instalment.
Instead, fans were treated to God of War-inspired skins and armour for God of War Ragnarök as well as a tribute video and brand-new merch.
Check out the God of War Collection trailer below!
As lovely as those things are, fans were hoping that Santa Monica Studio would take the anniversary as an excuse to talk about a potential remaster of the original 2005 God of War.

However, it may not all be doom and gloom as, according to Giant Bomb’s Jeff Grubb, Sony has a God of War title for the PlayStation 5 in the works and it will be taking Kratos back to ancient Greece.
Posting over on Bluesky, Grubb had the following to say:
“OK. Everyone keeps asking about this, so I've tried to find out more: There's still a Greek God of War thing coming out this year, but it's not a remaster collection. It's a new side-story project.”
He goes on to explain that he was never told “about a Remaster collection” and when asked about the potential size of this brand-new project, he told fans to “set your expectations lower”.

Judging by this information, the mystery project will not be a remaster of the original game, but will take Kratos back to ancient Greece in some sort of shorter release.
Perhaps the size of Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales.
It is also unclear if the Kratos we have grown to know from Santa Monica Studio’s more recent instalments will be heading back to Greece or if the game will focus on a young Kratos once again.
As these are mere rumours, there is no concrete information.

However, this rumour would definitely correspond with a previous report made by Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson who, earlier this year, claimed that the next rumoured God of War game would indeed feature a younger Kratos.
Here is hoping we will get more information surrounding the mysterious project later this year.
