God Of War fans lose it as PlayStation officially confirms Kratos' return

God Of War fans lose it as PlayStation officially confirms Kratos' return

Guess who's back

The God of War is back. Last night, at Opening Night Live from Gamescom, perhaps the most exciting trailer for many was shown after an emotional introduction.

It was, essentially, a sizzle reel for the upcoming Amazon Prime TV series, Secret Level, which will feature a range of short animated films based on video games. And we got the merest glimpse of Kratos.

Also announced at Opening Night Live was Borderlands 4

Yes, the company behind Love, Death + Robots has created a new anthology series and it will feature Sony’s God of War mascot in a new adventure.

Perhaps more shocking and surprising is that the shot of Kratos shows him in a modern-day city.

During the trailer, we got glimpses and clips of several amazing games being translated to the screen.

Among the 90 seconds of footage were Sifu, Ghost of Tsushima, Spelunky, Mega Man, and Concord, but it was Kratos that left a lingering effect.

This marks a new point for Kratos as he seems to be departing not only the Asgardian world but also his historical environment.

As one Twitter user puts it, “WTH is Kratos doing in a modern city?” This is echoed constantly with questions and people suspecting he’s in New York.

We’re going to have to wait to see what is occurring but some on social media believe that maybe he is a part of a bigger part of an ensemble of Sony characters, a kind of PlayStation All-Stars short.

Regardless, Twitter is chock-full of memes, gifs, and positive reactions on seeing Kratos coming to TV screens.

There are fire emojis, hearts, shocked faces - it’s a bevy of happiness. It was certainly a high point in the evening and has us wondering if Secret Level might be a test on Amazon’s part to see the reception for these franchises.

I imagine that if this is well-received we’ll see much more and perhaps even expanded series based on the most popular characters.
