If you’re worried that we’ll get no more Jin Sakai from Ghost of Tsushima then you might be in luck.
Developed by Sucker Punch Productions, Ghost of Tsushima was initially released in 2020 for PlayStation 4 before eventually making its way to PS5 and PC. Ghost of Tsushima starring troubled samurai Jin Sakai is forced to question his morals to save his home and the people he loves, is considered one of the best Sony exclusives in recent years.

Understandably, there was a lot of hope for a Ghost of Tsushima sequel and following months of speculation, Ghost of Yōtei was announced at the recent State of Play event. However, it was revealed that Jin Sakai is not returning to this game; instead, we’re playing the role of a female ronin named Atsu.

This new character took many fans by surprise, but considering Ghost of Yōtei is set in the year 1603, over 300 years after the events of Ghost of Tsushima, it’s a safe assumption to make that Jin Sakai is well and truly dead at this point.
If you were disappointed that Jin Sakai is not returning in the sequel, then there is a glimmer of hope. As reported by Push Square (via The New York Times), it seems that Sony may have plans for spin-off games in this series.
The New York Times report by Zachary Small says: “On Tuesday, Sucker Punch Productions announced Ghost of Yōtei, the beginning of an official franchise that will include at least one movie and other spin-offs, putting the series alongside emblematic Sony PlayStation titles like God of War and Horizon Zero Dawn.”
Of course, this report should be taken with a pinch of salt, until either Sony or Sucker Punch Productions announces something more concrete. What’s more, we don’t know what genre these spin-offs will be and they might not even star Jin Sakai, but you never know.
