If you’ve never played Ghost of Tsushima and you’re keen to give it a go following the announcement of its sequel, Ghost of Yōtei, then now is officially the best time to give it a go.
As of writing this, Ghost of Tsushima Directors Cut is free for both PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium subscribers. Both the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 versions are available too, so you can jump into it regardless of your console of choice.
FYI, if you’re on PS4 and you noticed that the version of Ghost of Tsushima you can download isn’t labelled “Directors Cut” then don’t worry. That version of the game still includes the Iki Island expansion, so you’re not going to miss out on anything.

As developer Sucker Punch recently revealed, the protagonist from the first game, Jin Sakai, won’t be the main character in the sequel - if he even features in the game at all.
That being said, Ghost of Yōtei is only set 20 years after the events of Ghost of Tsushima so it’s still likely going to tie in the first game in some way or another.
Regardless of if he does or doesn’t pop up in the sequel, Ghost of Tsushima is still an absolute banger of a game if you’ve not had a chance to play it yet. At the very least, playing it will hopefully get you hyped for the next game.
The game received universal praise when it first dropped in 2020 and the PS5 version of the game is currently sitting at an 87/100 on Metacritic.

The game is also available on PC if you’re not a PlayStation owner, but of course you can’t take advantage of a PS Plus subscription on Steam.
It is likely the game will go on sale at some point in the future though, given all the hype behind Ghost of Yōtei, so keep an eye out for any Steam sales in the near future.
