Are you still with us? The opening hour of The Game Awards has drawn to a close. Don’t worry though, we’ve still got several hours ahead of us which means there are plenty more awards and reveals on the way.
It’s been a busy night so far. Neil Newbon won Best Performance for his role as Astarion in Baldur’s Gate 3, very well deserved, plus Matthew McConaughey stopped by to reveal Exodus - a new sci-fi RPG from ex-BioWare devs - which he will star in. If you’re a PlayStation fan, you’ll already be feasting well as it’s been revealed that God of War Ragnarök is getting free DLC, titled Valhalla, that’s set to launch for free on 12 December. Much like The Last of Us Part II Remastered’s upcoming No Return mode, it’s set to use roguelike elements. We’ve also just got a fresh look at PlayStation 5 exclusive Rise of the Ronin.
Take a look at the latest trailer for Rise of the Ronin below.
Created by Team Ninja, Rise of the Ronin will definitely appeal to fans of both Assassin’s Creed and Elden Ring - and of course, there are touches of Ghost of Tsushima in there. In this open-world action RPG, players will “embark on an epic journey across war-torn 19th-century Japan”. While there’s some delicious combat, Rise of the Ronin also looks as if it’ll boast some excellent traversal.

The synopsis reads as follows: “Japan, 1863. After three centuries of the Tokugawa Shogunate’s oppressive rule, the Black Ships of the West descend upon the nation’s borders and the country falls into a state of turmoil. Amidst the chaos of war, disease and political unrest, a nameless warrior forges their own path, holding the very fate of Japan in their hands.”
The trailer ended with that coveted release date. We do not have long to wait as Rise of the Ronin will land on 22 March 2024.
