Yesterday’s State of Play wasn’t chock full of first-party announcements as some hoped, but that’s not to say that it was without its highlights.
The showcase brought us several exciting new game reveals, both of the first and third-party variety.
As wonderful as I thought both Saros and MindsEye looked, it’s actually Tides of Annihilation that I wanted to draw your attention to today.
Advert
Tides of Annihilation is an upcoming single-player fantasy action-adventure game that’s in the works at Chinese studio Eclipse Glow with backing from Tencent.
I should make it clear that despite its reveal taking place during the State of Play, this is a third-party title, launching on PlayStation 5 (including a Pro mode), Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
Somewhat of a clash between Elden Ring and Shadow of the Colossus, the game is set between a ruinous London and the fantasy realm of Avalon.
Take a look at Tides of Annihilation in action below.
“When the streets of London are engulfed by an Outworld invasion, the only survivor, Gwendolyn, discovers a mysterious power to command the legendary Knights of the Round Table,” the synopsis reads.
Advert
“Driven by vengeance and the desperate need to save her sister, she embarks on a high-stakes journey across two worlds: a shattered modern London and the mythical Avalon.”
There are reportedly over 100 developers working on the project and yes, if you hadn’t guessed, it’s based on Arthurian legends.
As Gwendolyn, you’ll master a “Spectral Knight dual-fighting system” - and I don’t use the word master lightly.
You’ll need to hone your skills if you’re to take on the game’s over 30 bosses.
Advert
It sounds as if Gwendolyn will utilise a weapon of your choosing - sword, bow etc - while backed up by an NPC ‘Spectral Knight’ who you can command to be offensive or defensive.
Boss fights will entail besting “colossal knights” who roam the city; “Scale and battle massive, dynamic knights across London in vertical, interconnected challenges,” the synopsis adds.
It all sounds very promising, with developers promising around 30 hours of gameplay.
For now, Tides of Annihilation remains without a release date but we’ll be keeping a close eye on its progress.
