Well, this is a surprise. Months after its initial release on new-gen consoles and PC, it’s been confirmed that Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is actually going to be landing on both PS4 and Xbox One. Who’d have thought?
It was confirmed prior to Jedi: Survivor’s release that Cal Kestis’ new adventure would be skipping a previous-gen release entirely. Doing so allowed the devs to focus on crafting a better optimised new-gen experience. All the way back in May 2022, game director Stig Asmussen spoke highly of the lightning-fast loading times on the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, as well as the DualSense controller’s haptics, and it was clear that the team had big plans to fully utilise all of the new-gen features they could when bringing the highly anticipated sequel to life.

With all that in mind, this news about a previous-gen release really has come out of nowhere. As IGN reports, it was confirmed during an EA earnings call yesterday (1 August) that Respawn Entertainment is currently in the “early stages of development” with the Xbox One and PS4 ports.

In his review, GAMINGbible’s very own Will McCue gave Jedi: Survivor a nine out of 10, and hailed it as “the best Star Wars game in a very long time”. He wrote: “Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is an exceptional sequel, improving on every gripe fans had with Fallen Order while adding countless new features in that’ll keep players engrossed for a long, long time. It’ll take something really special to come out to stop Survivor being the best action/adventure game of 2023.”
At the time of writing, it’s not clear when Jedi: Survivor will release on PS4 and Xbox One - we could be waiting a while yet. Even so, this is great news for anyone who’s not picked up a new-gen console yet.
