Skyrim: Shadows Over Winterhold is a fantastic new free quest expansion

Skyrim: Shadows Over Winterhold is a fantastic new free quest expansion

It's time to take on a whole new role

If you have the urge to boot up Skyrim but realise you have exhausted all of its content, this brand-new free expansion is guaranteed to get you back into the Bethesda classic.

It has been well over a decade since Bethesda launched its hit RPG The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, and despite players still stumbling across hidden features to this day, there is no denying that its content has become a bit stale in recent years.

Check out the trailer for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim below!

However, PC gamers have quite the advantage thanks to Skyrim’s dedicated modding community.

Added just yesterday, Shadows Over Winterhold is a free quest expansion by modder Nuthead.

“As Arch-mage of the College of Winterhold, your leadership is tested when a new group of apprentices arrives,” the official mod synopsis reads.

“What begins as a routine investigation into missing soul gems soon unravels in a dark conspiracy involving an infamous necromancer.”

The Arch-Mage Ritual Site Questline includes one side quest, five new possible companions, four miscellaneous quests and a new island off the NW coast of Solitude to explore.

Your side quest will consist of choosing to accept or reject new students to the College. If they are accepted, they will gain access to daily packages, sleeping quarters, and personalities.

Not only that but they can also be recruited as companions if their miscellaneous quest is completed.

As for the brand-new island, travelling there will see you stumble across an altar which can convert grand soul gems into black soul gems which will come quite handy in your journey across Skyrim.

Other things to note before you head into this mod is that it requires Skyrim Version 1.6.1170 and the quest can only begin once you have completed the Winterhold College questline in the base-game.

Other than that, you are free to go and take on the role of the Arch-Mage of Winterhold’s iconic college.
