Bethesda may be done with Skyrim, but that doesn't mean we are.
The seemingly endless wait for The Elder Scrolls VI has been made so much easier over the years thanks to a series of expansions for Skyrim that have been made by the fans, for the fans.
As incredible as it may seem, 2025 looks set to see the release of one of the biggest and most ambitious fan expansion for Skyrim of all time, more than a decade after the original game launched.

Apotheosis is a massive dark fantasy mod for Skyrim that offers players an entirely new - and deeply creepy - adventure. It's been in development for years, and is supposed to finally see the light of day this year.
"Apotheosis is a dark fantasy, story-rich, open world expansion for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim set across the 17 Planes of Oblivion, and 'Dreamsleeve', in an echo of a fallen world," reads the mod's official description.
"Reawaken, Dragonborn, Ysmir, Dragon of the North; ride forth and reclaim the shattered heart of the world, in a tale of loss, our sense of self, free will and the ultimate price of power.
"You start in the Dreamsleeve, in a twisted fallen world, stranded at the far end of time. Heed the call of Kyne, Goddess of Storms and Widow of Shor. Take up arms and overcome the very grips of death. Or is it your fate to become a memory, faded and scattered to the winds of time?"

The most recent teaser for the game, released on YouTube, has fans seriously excited - and we can see why.
"If I had been shown this trailer without context, I'd have thought this was for a AAA game release, fantastic work to Di0 and the rest of the Apotheosis team," one YouTube comment reads.
Another adds: "I can’t believe this is a mod for Skyrim. Absolutely beautiful."
We'll be keeping a close eye on Apotheosis over the next few months to see if it can make that 2025 release window after all. But even if it needs a little more time, it certainly looks like it'll be worth the wait.
