If you’re finding the wait for The Elder Scrolls VI unbearable, I have just the recommendation for you, my friend.
The wonderful thing about Skyrim is that not only is it a fantastic game, it boasts one of the best modding communities out there. With the free download of a mod, you can completely revitalise the base game - providing that all important replayability. We recently discovered that the Lordbound mod has finally set a launch window after being in development for several years. It’s set to introduce over 60 hours of content, including the biggest quest to be seen in Skyrim thus far. In the meantime though, you may want to check out the Lovecraftian inspired Calling The Watchmaker quest mod, which is free and available to download now.
The Elder Scrolls VI’s reveal trailer was dropped all the way back in 2018. It’s been a long six years.
Created by NexusMods users nimwraith and BigMacHornet, Calling The Watchmaker is, as mentioned, inspired by the works of HP Lovecraft. The quest-based mod centres around how the universe in which The Elder Scrolls is set was created - specifically linking to the Sithis and their influence. It’s fully voiced by actors with over 100 lines of dialogue.

The creators of the mod teased, “Calling the Watchmaker is an extremely unique quest as it touches a subject many other quest mods never have, the lore of creation. The mod tells this story through an intelligent scholar across multiple encounters, here the player will learn all about how the TES universe was created and come to learn more about Sithis.” Calling The Watchmaker also introduces a brand new location, Dreynos’ Cabin, which is a fully-furnished abode, home to the titular NPC.
You can install the mod mid-playthrough, so don’t worry about having to start Skyrim over. If this sounds like your cup of tea, it’s available on NexusMods now. It’s vastly approaching the milestone of 50,000 downloads. Why not make this modders day and help send it over the finish line?
