Just when I thought Dark Souls was already video game perfection, someone went ahead and turned one into a roguelike.
FromSoftware’s soulsborne titles are in my opinion the pinnacle of video game difficulty, with games crafted to constantly encourage you to “git gud'' if you want to succeed.
GAMINGbible recently sat down with the cast of the Fallout live-action show for a game of snog, marry, irradiate, and you can watch the chaos unfold in the below video
Sure you can look up where to go and what to do online, as well as put together some stupidly broken character builds that make the game a cinch, but it’s still your own skill and determination that’ll see you through to the credits.

That being said, while Dark Souls games will punish you for getting ahead of yourself by making you lose all the souls you were carrying at the time, a mod for the first game takes it a step further by randomising the enemies, bosses and items.
Fittingly dubbed Roguelike Souls, the mod does exactly what it say so the tin and turns a brutally challenging RPG into a brutally challenging roguelike instead.
Created by Grimrukh, the mod’s description reads: “Embark on a perilous quest to rescue your lost friends. But beware: die too often, and all progress will be lost, and the foes, bosses, and treasure scattered throughout Lordran will change completely.”
This means you could encounter just about any boss in any area of the game, and NPC invasions are still switched-on too for some added challenge.

Now too many deaths result in you losing everything you own instead of just your souls, and there’s no guarantee you’ll find that Zweihander sword again early into a run.
All in all it’s a stunning twist on an already stellar game, and one you can download for free from NexusMods right now.
