Dark Souls 3 just got a hefty remaster you can download now

This is huge

The best Dark Souls game has been given a glorious visual overhaul, potentially before an official remaster gets announced.

While Dark Souls is my Game Of Every Year by a wide margin I can’t deny that Dark Souls III is the better game, which is why I’m always happy to see it still thriving even in 2025.

Dark Souls III capped off the trilogy with a bleak by nostalgic trip down memory lane, with a tale about the toxicity of holding onto the past

Rumour has it that Dark Souls III will soon be getting an official remaster, and while nothing has been confirmed yet I’d love to see the game enhanced for modern platforms.

While we wait to see what FromSoftware is cooking up though PC users can already enjoy an enhanced version of the game through modding, specifically a visual overhaul you won’t want to sleep on.

Simply titled DS3 Visual Overhaul you can download it right now from NexusMods, and it’s worth doing if you want it to experience the game at its best.

The way it works is by altering the game’s gparam config, which allows for better lighting and more realistic textures.

For a game like Dark Souls III that practically oozes atmosphere the lighting and visuals are crucial in getting you immersed, so this mod is well-worth the download already.

The mod’s description says the mod includes “natural colors restored, huge increase in clarity and detail, hero lighting removed, fixes DS3's metallic look, and much more.”

Pair this with one of the expansion mods that adds new areas, enemies, classes and bosses to the game and you’d have a full-on Dark Souls III remake…

Hopefully the rumours of that remaster are true though, and if it is hopefully it looks just as good as this mod.
