Hardcore Dark Souls fans who want a real challenge need to check out this overhaul mod for the first game. It’s guaranteed to skill-issue you.
As someone who’s beaten Dark Souls more times than I can count, I can safely say the game is nowhere near the challenge it used to be.
Hopefully Elden Ring: Shadow Of The Erdtree gives us souls fans a run for our money, and you can see the trailer below.
My obsession with the first game has gotten to the point where I can find all the items I need, slay all the bosses I want and roll the credits in around six-ish hours if I’m really committed, which isn’t as fast as others can go but it’s a time I’m proud of.

If you’re like me and don’t feel the same sense of unease and intimidation from the first game, you’ll want to hear all about Dark Souls: Ascended, a mod which overhauls the game and acts as a test of will and resolve for veteran players.
In short, Dark Souls: Ascended reworks the game for a new challenge, including switching up the enemy placement, changing AI behaviour, and the effects of weapons and armour.
The mod even switches up some of the soundtrack for some bosses, in addition to adding new starting classes and armour enhancements.
Altogether it transforms the first Dark Souls game into something entirely new, as well as creates the opportunity to put together brand-new character builds that weren’t possible in the base game.

It’s nothing compared to what FromSoftware is cooking up with Elden Ring: Shadow Of The Erdtree, but as far as transforming a classic RPG goes, it’s pretty fantastic.
Dark Souls: Ascended is free to download from NexusMods.
