Dark Souls IV probably isn’t happening, but why should it when the story is over and expansion mods like Dark Souls: Cinders are doing FromSoftware’s work for it?
Don’t get me wrong, if Dark Souls IV was announced later today I’d be all over it, but part of me would be a little disappointed that the series wasn’t just left to rest.
Dark Souls III capped off the series beautifully, it’d be a shame to spoil that ending
Besides who needs a fourth game when you’ve got things like Elden Ring: Nightreign on the way, which will somehow bring popular Dark Souls bosses into the Elden Ring world, for better or worse.

There are also fantastic fan-made expansion mods to play if you’re hungry for more Dark Souls content, the best of which is Dark Souls: Cinders.
This is a mod you can download for free right now for your next Dark Souls III playthrough, but be warned, it’s basically a different game.
Like any overhaul it makes a lot of changes to the experience, from enemy placement and design, new bosses, changes to your inventory and progression, and even adds some new classes to try at the beginning of the game.
With these new additions comes new challenges, so those players out there who’ve played the trilogy to death and know all of its secrets will surely get a kick out of this expansion.

For players who aren’t as confident in their skills though, you’ll still be able to enjoy Dark Souls: Cinders as NPC summons have been added to every boss fight, so you don’t have to face it alone if you don’t want to.
If you haven’t played it yet, please, please, please give it a go, only if you play on PC obviously as there’s no way to get this working with console versions of the game.
