It has been over 10 years since the sea-faring action-adventure game Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag was first released but its popularity has certainly not decreased over time. With fans desperate for a remaster and Ubisoft yet to work on one, it is down to creators to give the 2013 title a new lease of life.
As the sixth major instalment in the long-running Assassin’s Creed series, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag is considered to be one of the best by fans. Praised for its epic ship combat, loveable characters and beautiful Caribbean setting, Black Flag has earned its longevity.

Luckily for them, one creator over on Nexus Mods has made the ‘Caribbean 2021 Reshade’ which came from their frustration over mods promising ray tracing and not delivering it. This reshade adds more contrast to the game to make it “feel more tropical and sunny”. Additionally, reflections are a lot more realistic, light blends effortlessly into shadows and there are some subtle changes to chromatic aberration.
Last but not least, the creator, NexusMods user luckduvell, believes the reshade - including grading and film noise - gives it “more imperfections to make it feel more real”.
The reshade is free to download and add to your Black Flag save file on PC and the simple change is guaranteed to bring a more realistic feel to the Caribbean adventure.
In related news, Assassin’s Creed Red has recently been the subject of some leaked footage which shows the game is set to improve on Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s best feature - the ability to build a settlement.
