With so many releases in Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed series, it would be understandable for some to fly under your radar such as the underrated entry Assassin’s Creed Rogue.
Without giving too much away, Assassin’s Creed Rogue was initially released in 2014 for PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, and it played a big role in the plot of Assassin’s Creed Unity which was released that very same year. Perhaps Assassin’s Creed Rogue was overlooked by some due to it being less visually impressive than Unity and could be considered a Black Flag-lite.

“As Shay, you will experience the slow transformation from Assassin to Assassin Hunter,” reads the synopsis of Assassin’s Creed Rogue. “Follow your own creed and set off on an extraordinary journey through New York City, the wild river valley, and far away to the icy cold waters of the North Atlantic in pursuit of your ultimate goal - bringing down the Assassins for good.”

Assassin’s Creed Rogue would receive a re-release in 2018 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, boasting slightly improved visuals and performance before it was then released on Nintendo Switch the following year. Yet, thanks to a mod called ‘Assassin’s Creed Rogue Remastered Reshade’ created by ACVictoryProject, this underrated gem now looks better than ever and best of all, it’s free to download now via Nexusmods.
“This reshade preset makes the image look close in visuals to Assassin’s Creed Unity, Syndicate and ACIII Remastered in a way that it adapts dark and light environments properly and dynamically in the same way as in those games,” explains the creator of the mod. “It also makes the image clear and without changing the colour palette thanks to HDR effects.”
Just by looking at the comparison screenshots on the dedicated Nexusmods page, the improvements of the mod are clear to see, offering much more crisp visuals and textures. If only the 2018 Assassin’s Creed Rogue re-release looked this good.
Assassin’s Creed Rogue is out now on PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch.
