The first Assassin’s Creed game has been given a next-gen coat of paint, and it looks bloody brilliant, plus it’s free.
It’s arguably the game that started it all for Ubisoft, after all the Assassin’s Creed franchise has been a big part of the company’s success for many years now yet the first game very rarely gets the love and praise it deserves.

To be fair it’s not difficult to see why, after all it’s rather outdated by modern standards and was quickly overtaken in popularity by its younger, superior brother Assassin’s Creed II and its dashing protagonist Ezio.

The game still has its fans though, many of which are reluctant to let the game fade into obscurity like many others have done.
That brings us to this fantastic remaster of the first Assassin’s Creed game, which you can check out right now via a YouTube video by KTMX.
Now this isn’t just a simple framerate and resolution type of remaster, this is the full package and the difference between the original release and this version is night and day.
It’s called the Assassin’s Creed 1 Remastered mod, and it’s said to still be a work-in-progress with additional updates and tweaks on the way.

It adds all new lighting and graphics reshading, many of which looks practically photorealistic.
The idea behind it was reportedly to create something that looks similar to what Ubisoft would create if it greenlit an official remaster of the game for Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5 and PC.
The mod’s creator went on to describe the project as bringing the game back to its “glory days” and it certainly does the trick.
Players can try the mod for themselves via the video’s description, which also includes instructions on how to install it if needed.
