A brand new free download for an “action RPG adventure” just dropped on Steam, and it’s giving me some serious early PlayStation vibes.
Katana Dragon is the first game from the developer and publisher Tsunoa Games, which they describe as an “action-RPG adventure and dungeons exploration” game.
A free demo for the upcoming title just dropped on Steam, although there’s no current word on when we can expect the full release of the game.

Developer Tsunoa Games states that Katana Dragon will see players “learn new ninja skills that will help you solve puzzles, defeat enemies and even reach new areas and discover their secrets” during your quest to help ninjas Shin and Nobi save their homeland Sogen.
The art style definitely looks like it’s going for that modern take on the low poly art style of the early OG PlayStation era.
I think the anime-esque aesthetic is part of the reason I’m getting strong Final Fantasy 7 and Dragon Quest vibes from it too, although that could just be down to one of the main characters’ hairstyles.
The gameplay also harkens back to some of the top-down action RPGs of the era too. While it’s not quite on the same level in terms of style, it’s really making me want to go back and replay Future Cop: LAPD for some reason.

I actually can’t find any reviews for the demo at all at the moment, although that’s not too surprising given how recently it dropped.
If you do fancy giving this one a go and download the demo, let us know how it plays. Personally I’m pretty curious to see how complete the demo feels, considering the developers haven’t announced any kind of rough release date for the game.
Now, I wonder how expensive a PlayStation 1 copy of Future Cop: LAPD goes for these days… ok never mind it’s like £70. Guess I’ll stick to the free demo.
