The latest Nintendo Direct claimed to not feature any announcements regarding the Nintendo Switch 2.
The claim wasn’t exactly true though, as one juicy tidbit about the upcoming console was indeed let slip.
In the latter half of the showcase, Nintendo unveiled ‘Virtual Game Cards’.

Essentially, the idea is that these virtual cards will allow your digital games to function similarly to your physical games.
Users will be able to transfer them to another console, or even share them with family members via a local network.
In the Direct itself, the Switch 2 wasn’t mentioned in relation to this.
Over on the Nintendo website though, it was.

You can take a look at the Nintendo Switch 2 reveal below.
As reported by The Game Post, the official ‘Virtual Game Card’ page on the Nintendo website reveals that the Nintendo Switch 2 will have both exclusive games and exclusive enhanced editions of games.
“Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive games and Nintendo Switch 2 Edition games can only be loaded on a Nintendo Switch 2,” the page reads.

Now we all suspected that the Switch 2 would have enhanced versions as that’s typically the expectation when it comes to new consoles.
It’s exciting to know for certain though that Nintendo has indeed seemingly invested time in preparing several remasters or enhanced versions.
I’m more surprised to see the mention of Nintendo Switch 2 exclusives.
Due to the ongoing popularity of the OG Switch, I really thought that for now, all new game releases would be opting for a cross-gen release approach.

If you look at PlayStation and Xbox, PS4 and Xbox One editions weren’t really phased out until a few years into the PS5 and Xbox series X/S’s life cycles.
However, it sounds as if the Nintendo Switch 2 could be launching with exclusives straight off the bat.
Of course, we should find out more very soon during that 2 April Direct.
