Hope you weren’t planning to wait for the sales so you can afford a Nintendo Switch 2, because according to a report from an industry analyst, it’ll start getting more expensive before it gets any cheaper.
Oh no. This article is going to contain politics. Cue the basement dwellers on Twitter getting mad in t-minus three seconds.
Tariffs. Don’t you just love how much we gotta hear the word “tariffs” at the moment?

Well, the “can’t we just keep politics out of video games?” crowd is about to lose it, because unfortunately, those pesky little politics are dead set on impacting the price of our video games.
As stated in a report by the digital media consultancy firm DFC Intelligence, the United States’ recently announced tariffs may have a pretty sizeable impact on the cost of the Nintendo Switch 2.
Mario Kart World is a Switch 2 launch title.
“The broader macroeconomic challenges facing the video game industry complicate pricing forecasts, with DFC modeling a 20% price increase over the next two years,” DFC Intelligence’s report revealed.

“A major concern remains the impact of newly imposed tariffs, a challenge that lies beyond Nintendo’s immediate control yet has significant implications for pricing and supply forecasts.”
Whether or not this will directly affect the release of the Nintendo Switch 2 is still up in the air, considering Nintendo just announced that pre-orders for the console are being delayed in both Canada and the United States.
If the console does manage to ship before the tariffs go into effect, you should still be able to grab it at its current recommended retail price at launch.
After that, though? Your guess is as good as mine, although it will almost definitely depend on where you live.

And here we all thought the idea of paying $80 for a game was bad enough. At this rate, Grand Theft Auto VI is gonna cost £200 at launch.
