GTA: San Andreas is arguably the best GTA game in the series, though that could just be the nostalgia talking.
My personal favourite is GTA IV, largely because it was my first GTA game before going back and playing the previous ones, and then GTA V dominated my time by being the brand-new game.
GTA VI is going to surpass all of the games that came before it though, check out the trailer below
GTA: San Andreas still holds up despite being a 20-year-old game, though I’d recommend getting your hands on a copy of the original rather than the “remaster” that came out a few years ago.

In a thread on X, one user, Synth Potato broke down just how impressive this game was for its time of release, as it boasted open-world details that you’d expect for a game that was released nowadays, but were mind-blowing back in the day.
Now there are a lot of details to highlight here, but one of the more impressive ones was how the in-game weather changed the environment.
As Synth Potato says in the post, the weather and wind speed can make things like flags move around semi-realistically, an insane detail for such an old game.
Other details you’ll probably know about are CJ’s body type changes based on what you do with him, like him getting chunky when eating too much or muscular when he’s hit the gym enough times.

He’ll even hold his weapons differently depending on his skill level, with higher skill levels having him actually aim down the sights for improved accuracy.
GTA: San Andreas is simply amazing, and it’s still considered the gold standard for what a Grand Theft Auto game should be, hitting the perfect balance of story and mission variety with loads of side content to experience in the open-world.
