GTA VI fans are concerned the release date could get pushed back, following a reveal during last night’s Gamescom Opening night Live.
Last night Hangar 13, a Take-Two Interactive developer, made the exciting announcement that we’d be getting another entry in the Mafia series, Mafia: The Old Country.

Like most game reveals nowadays, no release date was given, but the developer promised fans that more details will be revealed towards the end of the year in December.

So what does this have to do with GTA VI? Well fans think the game’s reveal and presumably its 2025 launch date could be very telling for when we’ll get GTA VI, or rather, when we won’t.
Reddit user SuchAppeal put the theory forward that Mafia: The Old Country will release nowhere near GTA VI, as the two games are both published by Take-Two Interactive so the company won’t want to see them compete.
The user suggested the respective release dates could be “Mafia 4 early in the year, and GTA VI in the fall” but went on to say the reveal makes them worried that GTA VI may be getting delayed into 2026.
While it’s unlikely this is the case considering Rockstar Games told fans the game will launch sometime in Fall 2025, there’s still a small chance the developer could go back on that decision and push the game back for a bit of extra polish.

“GTA 6 is almost definitely getting delayed. The game NEEDS to be perfect. The internet will absolutely rip it to shreds if it isn't” said one fan.
That being said many fans are confident Mafia: The Old Country won’t interfere with GTA VI, with one fan pointing out “Take-Two is about to make a gazillion next year lol.”
Only time will tell when both games will get released, though with a title as important as GTA VI it’ll likely take priority over Mafia: The Old Country, even though both will probably be excellent games.
