Ubisoft’s black-sheep Assassin’s Creed game, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, is finally getting the love it deserves from fans.
Released in 2018, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey took Ubisoft’s flagship series to Ancient Greece, during a time that completely predates the Assassin Order and their conflict with the Templars. It also fully-embraced the RPG features introduced in Assassin’s Creed Origins, a decision that divided many fans.

Despite receiving overwhelmingly positive scores from critics and fan reviews, many felt the emphasis on combat and looting, combined with a lack of stealth options, held the game back.

Since then, many gamers have warmed up to the title, with the general consensus being that while it’s not a good Assassin’s Creed game, it is a great RPG that's definitely worth sinking some hours into.
GeekiTheBrave shared their positive take on the divisive title, saying: “Odyssey is so much more fun than people let me believe. If you have never played AC:Odyssey or haven't since launch, I implore you to play it now … If you go in with an open mind and take it as it comes I promise it is not this terrible AC game like a lot of people on this sub reddit seem to say it is.”
Surprisingly, many players agreed, with the majority believing the game was treated far too harshly at launch by players who simply weren’t fans of RPG games.
“Odyssey is that game we’ve all dreamt about as kids when we heard/read Greek history and myths and were fascinated with them. It’s an amazing game and I’m glad it exists. It also has one of the funniest and most heartwarming protagonists (I played as Alexios).”

“I love Odyssey personally. Absolutely my favorite of the RPG style games. And one of my favorites in the whole series.”
“I felt the same way. Didn’t pick it up for a year because I kept hearing negative things about it. When I finally got it I loved it.”
Overall, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is a fantastic game for gamers who favour a good open-world, and the hours and hours of base-game content is only bolstered by its DLC, which went all-in on the Greek mythology the game was based on.
Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is available for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PC and Nintendo Switch.
