It’s currently Netflix’s Geeked Week, in case you haven’t checked your calendar yet, and that can only mean one thing - trailers. One of the trailers we’ve been treated to is the latest for the Resident Evil series that’s shuffling ever closer to release on July 14th.
As you can imagine from a Resident Evil trailer, it’s full of zombies, gore, the Umbrella Corporation engaging in some shady stuff and of course a smattering of human characters thrown into the mix to add a little bit of spice.
Check out the latest trailer right here.
Let’s unpack a little, shall we? Netflix’s Resident Evil will be taking place in two distinct time periods - one is 2022, which will take a look at the world pre-zombie apocalypse and the events that lead up to, I would imagine, full scale undead warfare. Then, there’s the 2036 timeline which will see things play out in, you guessed it, a post-apocalyptic zombie hellscape. Simple, yes?
Advert
Netflix’s show will run for eight episodes and star Ella Balinska, Lance Reddick, Siena Agudong, Adeline Rudolph, Paola Nunez to name but a few, and should not be confused with the recently released Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City, which came out earlier this year to… not great reviews.
Resident Evil’s showrunner Andrew Dabb spoke to a group of journalists last month, and confirmed that the 2022 timeline will run (roughly) in conjunction with Resident Evil Village, the latest video game from Capcom. Does this mean that we’ll be seeing the likes of Ethan Winters and Lady Dimitrescu popping up for a cameo? Well, theoretically yes, but in practice, it is unlikely.
"They don't cross-over, obviously, because they're happening so far apart. But certainly now, Village is part of our lore. If we wanted to now put a giant vampire woman in Season 2, we can."
As for any other cameos, we’ll just have to wait and see when the series drops next month.
