For the most part, last night’s PlayStation Showcase felt somewhat underwhelming. It was a perfectly fine showcase. It just didn’t exactly feel like a PlayStation event. Beyond Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 later this year, PlayStation’s first-party release schedule remains a mystery.
Several cross-platform games were announced though including the heavily-rumoured and highly-anticipated Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater remake. The remake promises to be a “faithful recreation of the original story and game design” according to Konami but it will evolve the gameplay too, adding “stunning visuals and a seamless user experience.” If you’re new to the MGS series, MGS3 is actually a prequel so you certainly dive into this as your first MGS game. We also discovered that we’re getting the remastered Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol.1 which includes the original three games made available for modern consoles. That’s not all though, Konami are teasing a Metal Gear Solid 4 remaster too.
Take a look at the brand new trailer for Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater below.
As pointed out by Twitter user Wario64, Konami posted images of the three games included in the Master Collection Vol. 1 followed by a question mark with the accompanying caption, “Stay tuned for more information.” Many took this to mean that a remastered version of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is on the way. Seeing as the collection is called Vol. 1, it certainly suggests that there will be a Vol. 2 which would likely contain MGS4.
The development team also wrote that they’re “working together to create an environment where fans can experience and enjoy the Metal Gear series on the latest platforms.” To point out the obvious, the whole series includes MGS4. Another hint that it may be in the works behind the scenes.
Advert
It’s a game that’s been largely inaccessible for a long time seeing as it was only released on PlayStation 3 consoles, so it would be great to see it make a comeback. Let’s cross our fingers.
