Marvel unveils new Spider-Man villain, and he sounds formidable

Is Marvel really planning to kill Spidey off for good?

Spider-Man is about to face quite possibly the toughest foe he’s ever fought and, according to Marvel, die in the process.

Thank you in advance to ComicBook's Cameron Bonomolo for the original story!

Spidey has been having a bit of a rough few weeks in the Marvel universe– and no, before you say it, I’m not talking about Paul.

Alright, this contains massive spoilers for the current run of Spidey comics. If you’re alright with that, then it’s time to speedrun catching you up on the latest Marvel comics shenanigans.

So, Doctor Strange is no longer Sorcerer Supreme. Doctor Doom is now Sorcerer Supreme, after Strange willingly gave the title up to him. This is because it was revealed to Strange that only Doom can save the Marvel universe from a cataclysmic event.

In a bid to repel the Scions of Cyttorak the Destroyer, Doctor Doom has bestowed eight “Reeds of Raggadorr” to Spider-Man. These are essentially bonus lives, allowing Spidey to die up to eight times without being sent to the afterlife.

Captain America: Brave New World is the next MCU project.

So far throughout the run, Spider-Man has died four times - but it sounds like his fifth death is going to be the hardest.

Hellgate, the villain foretold by Spidey’s previous foe Cyra, is apparently going to make Spider-Man relive some of the worst moments of his life.

“Representing Spider-Man’s greatest challenge in the new era,” Marvel revealed in a press release, “Hellgate will force Spider-Man to endure some of his most brutal battles ever and will significantly impact the course of Peter Parker’s life — both in and out of the suit.”

Sounds rough, but that’s pretty much par for the course for Spider-Man at this point.

I wonder how bad it could get though… maybe they’re going to make Peter relieve the entirety of Zeb Wells’ terrible Paul run. I can’t imagine a worse fate.
