One of The Lord of the Rings’ biggest stars has just announced that they’ll be voicing one of the dark knight’s greatest foes in the next Batman title… which apparently comes out in two days? Wow, ballsy move to reveal your most famous cast member in the eleventh hour.
As revealed in the Q&A Launch Edition video on the official Batman Arkham Videos YouTube Channel, Elijah Wood will be joining Batman: Arkham Shadow as Dr. Jonathan “Scarecrow” Crane.
Wood described himself as “a massive Batman fan” and that he was excited to take on a role that allowed him to try out motion capture work for the first time.

They also show off a little bit of in-game footage of Wood’s performance, alongside a glimpse into his mocap performance, and yeah, I see it. I think Wood’s voice alone is perfect.
In case you were unaware, and you would be forgiven for that considering it’s completely flown under the radar for most people, Batman: Arkham Shadow is a new entry in the Batman Arkham video game series.
It’s set between Batman: Arkham Origins and Batman: Arkham Asylum, and will release exclusively on the Meta Quest 3 and Meta Quest 3S on October 22nd (as in, this month).
A lot of the original Batman Arkham cast is coming back too, such as Batman: Arkham Origins’ Roger Craig Smith and Josh Keaton who will be reprising their roles as Batman and Robin.

Troy Baker will also be coming back to voice Two-Face, alongside Tara Strong who will be voicing Harley Quinn.
Honestly, it’s cool we’re getting another Batman Arkham game and everything but… I can’t find myself getting excited about a Meta Quest exclusive. You know everyone is just gonna watch a playthrough of this on YouTube instead of shelling out £300 for another VR headset.
Here’s hoping the next entry in the franchise will be on a system people actually own.
