If you enjoyed HBO’s The Last of Us series, chances are you may currently be making your way through Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us Part II, or you're at least thinking about it. There are those of us who are just craving another playthrough with season one of the show having now drawn to an end, and there are, of course, those experiencing their first playthrough in a desperate bid to find out where the story is heading next.
HBO will adapt The Last of Us Part II across several seasons. I say ‘several’ because they haven’t actually confirmed how many. The question on everyone’s lips is: Who is going to play Abby? We don’t know just yet but a new frontrunner has emerged when it comes to fancasting. If you’re a fan of that wholesome ‘Take On Me’ scene, Ellie actor Bella Ramsey has been showing off their guitar and singing skills - and we’re oh so excited. Today though, I bring you a new detail that one player has spotted in Naughty Dog’s Part II.
The Last of Us Part I launches on PC tomorrow, 28 March. Take a look at the trailer below.
As reported by GameRant, the detail relates to the final fight between Ellie and Abby that takes place in Santa Barbara. During the fight, Ellie uses her switchblade but as pointed out by Reddit user trianglularsounds, “This is the last time you’ll ever see Ellie’s switchblade,” as she loses it in the sea midway through the fight. This may not seem like a big deal but with season one of HBO’s The Last of Us fresh in our minds, we know the significance of that switchblade.
The switchblade originally belonged to Ellie’s mum Anna. When Anna died, she gave it to Marlene, asking if one day, she could pass the knife on to Ellie. As long as we’ve known Ellie, she’s always had that blade so it’s actually very significant that she loses it. It feels like quite a symbolic moment. By this point, Ellie’s lost Joel, Jesse, her relationship with Dina, plus any ounce of ‘innocence’ she may have been clinging on to.

LegoRacers3 responded, “My head canon that I just invented right now is the waves just washed it back on the beach and she picks it up. Can’t wait until Part III disproves the denial,” while IrishWithoutPotatoes added, “They might have given the switchblade plot armour, you never know but knowing Druckmann and Naughty Dog, that sucker is probably gone.”
