Oh man, here we go again. The latest episode of HBO’s The Last of Us is suddenly being hit by a wave of review-bombing after initially garnering a really positive reception.
In fact, episode eight, ‘When We Are In Need,’ is the highest-rated and most-viewed episode to date. Fans are full of praise for Bella Ramsey’s performance as Ellie, demanding that they be nominated for an Emmy. Many were also impressed by Pedro Pascal who absolutely nailed the interrogation scene. Some complained about the lack of infected but do you need infected when you’ve got a guy as disturbing as David in the mix? Some viewers are now branding the episode as “boring” though. Huh?
Take a look at the promo for the season finale of The Last of Us, ‘Look for the Light’ below.
Over on Metacritic, some viewers are claiming that the episode was dull. Did they watch the same hour I did? One user wrote, “It's another boring outburst of boredom blended in unnecessary violence. This show would have been okay at the first time TWD aired but 10 years later this is just plain boring,” while another added, “First 27 mins were boring as hell with characters that felt like filler. Nobody needs that little girl and the other people. The last 20 mins were ok but like in the game, not that great. For me, the David part was always the worst and most boring chapter in the game already.”

Another viewer added, “I think this is the episode people were looking forward to the most, but again, just totally falls short of the source. No infected, the most powerful scenes felt rushed.” Oh dear. I guess you’re never going to please everyone. Given the review-bombing season one has received, I dread to think what the reception will be to certain scenes in season two. Protect my girl Abby now.
Bella Ramsey has teased that the season finale will prove to be ‘divisive,’ so I’m guessing I’ll see you back here, same time next week for another round of review-bombing?
