Constantine 2 is happening but it wasn't half a struggle to convince the bigwigs in Hollywood.
It's a cult classic, starring Keanu Reeves as the titular exorcist and based on the Hellblazer comic from DC, and raked in a massive $231 million at the box office against a $70 million budget. In spite of this, it wasn't welcomed warmly by critics, with the Chicago Tribune calling Constantine "stranded in the purgatory of the second-rate." You could toast a marshmallow off that review.
Anyway, a sequel is on the way from the original's director Francis Lawrence with a script from the screenwriter of Batman Forever, I, Robot and I Am Legend, Akiva Goldsman. Of course, Reeves is back, and it transpires that he's been campaigning for Constantine 2 longer than the rest of us.

"I don't know if it was unfinished business but it was definitely a role that I loved, and I thought that Francis Lawrence, the director, did such amazing work," said Reeves in an interview with Total Film. "I loved playing that character, and I really enjoyed the film. I was like, [adopts Oliver Twist voice] 'Can I please have some more?'"
"I kept asking almost every year. I'd be like, 'Can I please?' [and] they'd be like, 'No, no!' So it's exciting. It's almost like an open playground that we can hopefully cook something up and play in, and I guess get out of the playground and prepare a meal, but I'm looking forward to it, and hopefully it can happen," continued the actor. What a wonderful mix up of metaphors he has there. "You don't know how these things go. But I'm definitely going to try my darndest to try and realize that dream," he said.

At the moment, there is no release window attached to the Constantine sequel as it is in the early stages of its development. We'll keep our eyes peeled for any and all updates, though.
