Dearest reader, I simply adore Horizon Forbidden West. The fact that it was completely snubbed at last year’s Game Awards breaks my heart. The problem is, Guerrilla Games’ latest title was swiftly overshadowed by Elden Ring just one week after it was released. That’s not to say that Elden Ring is better. I’m simply saying that people didn’t spend enough time with Horizon Forbidden West to truly appreciate it.
If you ask me, Horizon Forbidden West has 2022’s very best open world. How this game didn’t scoop up several best art direction awards, I do not know - and yes, I know art direction isn’t just about graphics. That being said though, Forbidden West boasts incredible graphics and almost one year after release, fans are finally catching on.
A brand new expansion, Burning Shores, will be released in April. Check out the trailer below.
Reddit user RickyWinterborn took to the site to write, “The graphics in Horizon FW are nuts,” posting an accompanying screenshot. My favourite part about Forbidden West’s open world is just how alive it feels, from the weather systems to the varied NPCs you encounter - all of whom are just as detailed as main characters.
Fathoms77 added, “Still might be the most visually stunning game I've ever seen. I'm playing God of War Ragnarök now and while it's pretty darn close, I still think FW has the slight edge. Just in terms of sheer, sweeping, breathtaking vistas,” while UnhappyBanana1211 added, “Best graphics on PS5 so far no competition.”
Advert
TheRavenAttack simply stated, “Best there is.” Forbidden West was a cross-gen release but upcoming DLC Burning Shores is set to be a PS5 exclusive so really, we should only see the graphics continue to improve.
