Hogwarts Legacy features difficult moral decisions for players to pickle through and there are a number of endings to reflect the unique path that they've journeyed on. Based on this statement from the game's narrative director, you'll want to think twice with every single side quest as there are over 100 that affect Hogwarts Legacy's overarching story.
Hogwarts Legacy's central conflict comes from the resurgence of Dark Wizards with the support of a goblin uprising, intent on proliferating an ancient form of magic into the world. Alongside persistent criticisms of Harry Potter author J. K. Rowling for her transphobic rhetoric, a proportion of fans are uncomfortable with the portrayal of the goblin rebellion as they are represented with what could be argued as antisemitic tropes. It's certainly one of the most controversial games out there, and still, it is a bestseller on both Steam and PlayStation 5 before it's even hit the shelves.

In an interview with GamesRadar+, narrative director and advanced game writer Moira Squier delved into the detail of how the game will respond to the player's multitude of choices. "The main storyline is complicated and engaging and involves a variety of different characters and viewpoints," they said. "But by giving the player choice moments throughout the game, we allow them to tell their own version of that epic story."

As aforementioned, there are over 100 opportunities to change the course of history in side quests and Squier added that there's no specific order to approach these. "The order in which the player chooses to complete these quests will impact their story and game. Everything is interconnected," they continued. "So, while it was challenging, it was a lot of fun to do, and it's rewarding to see how well it turned out." If you're unfamiliar, narrative direction in a game is less scrawling reams upon parchment in your tower and more coding and Excel spreadsheets. So sorry to shatter the illusion if you thought otherwise.
