With Hogwarts Legacy recently celebrating its 1-year anniversary, its publishers have revealed an upcoming free summer update and fans are less than impressed.
It has been a fairly decent year for Hogwarts Legacy developers Avalanche Software despite the initial controversy surrounding the Harry Potter inspired RPG.

Now with rumours of a live-service sequel which has left fans disappointed, it seems as though the bad news is set to continue after a recent update by Warner Bros. itself.

To celebrate Hogwarts Legacy’s 1-year anniversary, PlayStation-exclusive content will be distributed to other platforms this summer at no extra cost. Additionally, there will be “additional updates and features for the game”.
However, with no further information about what this update would entail, it was up to Avalanche’s community manager Chander Wood to provide more details.
He said: “We are thrilled that you are all excited for the free update to Hogwarts Legacy this summer. We love seeing all the guesses and hopes for what will be part of this update, and while we are not ready to talk about it yet, I do want to set some expectations for what we are working on.
Our original wording of ‘additional updates and features for the game’ was very intentional. This update is a small way of us showing appreciation to our players for the amazing reception to the game.”

The “amazing reception” to the game could perhaps be referring to the 24 million copies of Hogwarts Legacy being sold as of January 2024. However, with a live-service sequel on the horizon, this success may not be continued onwards.
In related news, one Hogwarts Legacy player managed to discover a hidden feature 400 hours into their playthrough. This is not the first time an Easter egg has been found which begs the question as to how detailed Avalanche Software’s magical world really is.
