Hogwarts Legacy fans are being treated to a new release this year, but don’t get too excited until I tell you the bad news first.
During yesterday’s Nintendo Direct presentation for the Nintendo Switch 2, Avalanche Software’s director Alan Tew popped up to reveal that a port of Hogwarts Legacy will be coming to Nintendo’s new console.
Fans over on the r/HarryPotterGame subreddit seemed mostly happy about this, although this is due in part to Hogwarts Legacy’s shoddy performance on the OG Nintendo Switch.

“I assume this is basically just gonna be the PS5/Xbox Series X version ported over for Nintendo players,” commented user HenshinDictionary.
“So it's good for those, the current Switch version is ROUGH.”
“Hogwarts Legacy would sell even better on the Switch 2 if WB hadn't canceled new DLC for returning players…” replied user Harley4L.
“I imagine most people who wanted to play the game on Switch have bought it by now and I don't know if graphics alone will convince them to purchase the exact same game twice.”

So, here’s the bad news I promised you earlier: I can’t find any information about whether or not the Nintendo Switch 2 version of Hogwarts Legacy will be a paid upgrade for those who already own the game on the OG Nintendo Switch.
Mario Kart World is also coming to the Nintendo Switch 2.
I’ve checked Nintendo’s website, Avalanche Software's website, and Warner Bros. Games' website, and none of them specifically mention any kind of upgrade option for Hogwarts Legacy.

It’s a bit too early to start breaking out the pitchforks considering the lack of confirmation, so I’ll just say this: if there isn’t a way to upgrade your Nintendo Switch version of Hogwarts Legacy, that’s a legit questionable move.
It’s kind of a wonder that Hogwarts Legacy runs on the OG Nintendo Switch at all, but that doesn’t excuse the fact that it’s a mess on that system.
Those who have already purchased that version of the game deserve some kind of upgrade option for investing money into a heavily inferior version of the game, instead of having to purchase the $60 game twice.
