Hogwarts Legacy was a massive critical and commercial success when it launched in 2023, so it's no real surprise to learn Warner Bros. is keen to get the sequel to fans as quickly as possible.
Developed by Avalanche Software and published by Warner Bros.Games, Hogwarts Legacy gave Harry Potter fans the experience they've been waiting for. Set in the late 1890s, the game follows a player-created student who ends up joining Hogwarts under mysterious circumstances in their fifth year.
Hogwarts Legacy not only surpassed the lifetime sales of Elden Ring in just five week, but it was also the best-selling game of 2023 by some distance. While the game has yet to be officially unveiled, its existence has essentially been confirmed by the top brass at Warner Bros., and it sounds like it's coming sooner than we'd have expected.

As reported by VGC (via Variety), the chief financial officer of Warner Bros. Discovery, Gunnar Wiedenfels explained: “Obviously, a successor to Hogwarts Legacy is one of the biggest priorities in a couple of years down the road. So there is certainly a significant growth contribution from that [games] business in our strategic outlook here.”
It was previously teased that Hogwarts Legacy 2 could embrace a more modern setting as it aims to synergise with the upcoming Harry Potter HBO series. We also know the new TV series is eyeing a 2027 release window, which could mean Hogwarts Legacy 2 isn't far behind it.
For now, though, we don't really know with 100 percent certainty what to expect from the sequel. All we can really say for certainty right now is that unless it ends up sharing a release window with GTA VI, it'll probably be the best-selling game of its year. Again.
