A couple who spent £20,000 on a Harry Potter themed wedding have been told to ‘grow up’ by cruel internet trolls, after posting images of the happy day online.
Harry Potter is a divisive franchise right now, that’s for certain. In case you missed it, a brand new Harry Potter TV show is in the works at HBO. The “decade-long” project will adapt JK Rowling’s novels, with roughly one season per book. Of course, there’ll be a brand new cast - and casting rumours are already rife. Some fans are already threatening to boycott the series though due to Rowling’s inclusion as an executive producer. In recent years, Rowling has come under fire for her transphobic comments. Before that point, Harry Potter was a franchise many found comfort and happiness in. So much so, that one couple themed their wedding around the franchise.
Take a look at the reveal trailer for the TV series below.
As reported by Metro, couple Craig and Katherine from Chicago, USA, tied the knot after Craig proposed right in front of Hogwarts castle in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios, Orlando. Both Craig and Katherine are major fans of the franchise, each with their own wizarding ink. It quickly became clear that their wedding day should also be Potter themed.

Guest invitations were themed around the four houses, with each guest encouraged to represent those house colours in their outfit. The duo married in front of a Deathly Hallows symbol and the ceremony was carried out by none other than Dumbledore (Well, a guy dressed up as Dumbledore). All in all, the wedding cost £20,000 but cruel trolls have told the pair to ‘grow up’.
“Katherine and I thought it was kind of funny,” Craig said. “It never really bothered us but I didn’t realise how much people on the internet think that their opinions matter. A lot of people kept saying stuff like, ‘I’m sure everyone in the audience is so uncomfortable’, and ‘The ring bearer must be so embarrassed’ but that couldn’t be further from the truth.”
“There wasn’t a single unsupportive person at our wedding. There were zero negative remarks before, at or after our wedding from guests. What we did hear a lot was that it was the best wedding people had been to.” We wish the couple many happy returns of the day.
